When it rains, it pours

I ran into my first hiccup with Wizards/Hasbro this month. I turned in the first draft of Maiden on October 6th. The advance I receive for the novel is broken into three parts; each part was to be received within 30 days after the meeting of a particular deadline. November 6th came and went, but a deposit from Hasbro was never made.

This was a big blow to the budget. Unfortunately, I barely make enough to support the family in my current position. The money we were expecting was a couple months worth of mortgage. It’s sad that I work 40 hours a week on top of writing, but still live like the proverbial “starving artist.”

After a couple days of waiting, I contacted via email the person at Hasbro who signs all my royalty statements. She responded promptly and got the ball rolling. Ended up that the paperwork from Wizards had never made it over.

Other than the fact there was a delay to begin with, I was pleased with how swiftly and smoothly the mistake was corrected. The money showed up today, as well as a nice care package from Wizards containing Libris Mortis, Complete Arcane, and Shining South.
