Jumpstar lives

I got a wonderful little email from the folks at NCSoft last night. If you remember, I wrote up an origin story for a superhero I created to play in their City of Heroes mmorpg. One of the ways NCSoft promotes the community for CoH is to accept fiction written by fans set in the CoH universe. If the “editors” like it, they’ll post it on the game’s website, or include it in the back of the monthly comic they produce. I rewrote Jumpstar’s story so it read like a newspaper article, trimmed a couple hundred words so it met their word count limit and sent it off.

Well, they liked it and it’s going to appear in the final issue of the City of Heroes comic book (#20). Ironically, I had deleted Jumpstar because the concept no longer appealed to me. The screenshots I had sent to accompany the story weren’t high enough in resolution and they asked for some more. So I recreated him last night and snapped some quick screenies.

I don’t subscribe to the comic book, and they haven’t been updating the PDF version they post online, so I asked for a copy to be mailed. It’s too bad the CoH novel line was discontinued. NCSoft doesn’t pay for accepted material, but at least I can qualify for membership in Fan Fiction Writers Anonymous now.

Cool! Any chance we’ll see the re-write, or is that “against the rules”?

I don’t think so, though I’ll probably wait to repost until after the issue is out in a couple months (the current release is #18).

    That’s pretty cool!

Nothing like adding to existing mythology. :)
